FULL MOON IN PISCES

Stamped art from Rubbermoon by Stephanie Mullaney, stamp images by M. Kelly. (Yes, I know this moon is less than full. We do the best we can.)

Before sunup this morning, the Piscean full moon hung above the barely-lit Los Angeles skyline, preparing to emphasize our dreams, illusions and spiritual connections to the Divine within. It signifies - in rudimentary terms - a lunar shift to the dreamy flow of the inner world. Pisces opens the door to worlds that lie within the soul and the psyche. Make of this what you will. Oh, and Mercury is retrograde.

We saw that same beautiful moon just above the ocean's horizon before leaving for my drive up the coast to the library. A few fog less days here - quite a treat to see the morning sky, making the most of it.

I'm soooo hoping that you do not take Astrology seriously.

Erin - It really was a fine, celestial sight, quite other worldly. Always good when the camera guys are paying attention. I bet your sky was magnificent.

Robert - No worries on that account. It was a quick post to put together this morning and the view of the moon just pushed me in that direction. It will be safe to visit here again.

Claire - Ah, Mercury...just when you want all your messages to be delivered clearly...pffffftttt. A fine day to you as well. xoxo

those words seem to appear often 'mercury is in retrograde' in movies, books...

Whatever people say about astrology, the moon is magical.

Maggie - I know the phrase comes to my mind when communications become snared - Mercury reportedly being in charge of such things - and these days we seem to be plagued by information that is either (a) late to arrive, (b) missing, or (c) baffling. It may not be Mercury's fault, but where else do we turn?

Kass - The moon, her myths and truths, is an image that speaks to me. Yes, magical...is it because the moon is our nearest celestial body or because the influence on the tides, on ourselves, is something we can actually observe? I think the heavens (as they were once called) hold great magic, the ability to enlarge our dreams.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to live in a time when science didn't run the world, but stories. What did they see of the moon and season and tides. There was still so much mystery in them and yet as humans do - they tried to understand, tried to explain it in the only way they knew how.
But the moon knows. She's been watching ever since.

Rachel - It may be fanciful on my part, but I think stories have inspired the exploration that becomes scientific fact. When we discover that all cultures, throughout the timeline of man, share the same myths, there is a uniting force which may elude even science. I don't believe a thing can be created unless it is first imagined. Going to the moon was not just political muscle-flexing; I know she'd been calling us.

you are absolutely right. Cultures fight about religion, too, when all religions began from the same stories - it's the politics behind them that keep changing.
It's incredible to think how we all started in stories.
Not fanciful at all.
"I don't believe a thing can be created unless it is first imagined."
Perfect. And so true.

Rachel - Thank you, and thank you additionally for pulling out a chair for me at the poets' table.

I think we are all writers. I think we all see the same things. I think we can help other people see them, too. Or at least to love the lives they are in. We get only one. Whatever form it comes in I think we have been given a gift.
You are welcome in any corner there may be. I think we are all welcome there. At least I hope so.

Speaking as a pisces.. I do love this moon..

although some friends who work with those whose minds are ore affected by lunar tides said it was a very busy time...

Rachel - In journalism as in other forms of writing, I've long felt that the writer is the interpreter, the translator, able to take sometimes vague material and help it make sense.

To be able to find the peace for ourselves, let alone offer it to others, of loving the life we have is perhaps the ultimate goal. It is, indeed a gift and we are all recipients. And I agree, my wish is a place for all at the table.

Denise - I can only say that there have been awarenesses in the past few days, hidden notions that floated to consciousness...perhaps from fishy depths, new ideas that will take some time to assimilate and maybe a bit longer to put into action.
