There were showers this morning, just after dawn. Actual early-in-the-season rain is forecast for later, tomorrow and, perhaps, beyond. We have also entered a big month for birthdays. Sincerest happy wishes today to Jean, and for tomorrow, to Alia and Morgan. Before the week is over, Joyeux anniversaire to Dana. Ah, Libra, fellow air sign, fellow troublemakers. Blessings, all.

One word about that man....Brilliant.
I fell in love with his unique style when I saw the film 'No Nukes' back in the '80's and he sang "We almost lost Detroit". Truly the grandfather of all things true to Rap.
Kerry - I looked up NO NUKES which does not even exist as a DVD ????? I know I saw it...much has fallen out of my head...but the CD set seems like a decent purchase. Is he not remarkable. I loved the brief interview with him explaining WHY the revolution will not be televised. Only maybe this week, some of it will. Thanks...for knowing who he is and for commenting. xo
i loved gil-scott heron, and saw him perform a number of times back in the day. i used to teach (a million years ago) a college course entitled the Sociology of Television, and always started the first class off with The Revolution Will Not be Televised...
(i had to get the guys from the AV dept to wheel a record player to my classroom; i brought my own album in from home.)
i really dont like this part of growing older, watching my cultural heroes die...
thanks, marlinn.
managed to spell both your name and his wrong. it's typing. not ignorance. (that's my excuse..)
gil scott-heron
and marYlinn.

my wv: plach (that which is gumming up my amyloid receptors)
Susan - First of all, it's not even the typing...it is the device's fault. One of the few consistencies.
I did not see him perform...you really were in the right place at the right time...and bringing in the LP, having the AV guys schlepp the record player...terms from the dawn of time, or so it seems. If new heroes were appearing at the same rate the old ones are vanishing, it might not be so difficult. Perhaps that is part of what blogging is about...keeping some of the names, some of the work out here in almost plain sight. Someone may stumble across it who would have found it no other place. xo
