If I thought about it longer, I might interpret this differently. Upon first sight, I thought of all those whom we carry, pull along behind us, somehow never manage to escape fully. As a visual, it becomes much easier to imagine simply cutting the strings.
an interesting exercise...to attach names/snapshots of those who haunt you (me/you/all of us) to kite strings and then let them go, to fly far, far out of sight.
Susan - I know there are ways to be freer than some of us are of these ghosts. It seemed finality could be possible by the act of cutting strings. Anyway, that, in a circular fashion, is the story the painting told me. xo

“i want to think
again of dangerous
and noble things.
I want to be light
and frolicsome.
i want to be improbable
beautiful and
afraid of nothing
as though I had
WINGS.”
