Word of the Week - 104

Word of the Week:  GLIMMER

Just a bit of sparkle, a beam of hope that it has not all gone south.  It can take the simplest form: old prescriptions that now require no co-pay, happy mail art, mild days and a kickass basketball game.  Spirits can flag as Life goes about the business of being Life, as friends experience enormous loss, bewildering illness, setbacks, about which we are helplessly and equally bewildered.  It is easy to lose what felt like solid footing.  We sense an overload of stress-induced chemicals.  Some of us - no names, please - get the shakes.

Yet restoration, that essential glimmer of better times, either at hand or to come, is not beyond our grasp.  A nap with real, deep and even dreaming sleep can transform me.  On some days my Pollyanna-esque M.O. has frayed, lost some of its dependable starch and it takes greater effort to find my way back.  My fall-back affirmation continues to be, "I'm still here."

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson has been credited, and I have no call to doubt it, with the sentiment, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."  To which I say, "If only."  I am so ready for a paying gig that matches my uncommon skills.

Glimmer and shimmer through those tiny cracks that hopefully open up into the full spectrum of the realization of your dreams.
