Wayne Thiebaud's "Cut Cakes" |
To do today:
Celebrate son's birthday, savor and delight in the gift he is, has always been. Appreciate the way in which his gentle nature, his humanness, his forgiving inclinations, his loyalty to friends, his questing mind remind me of what I value in this world.
Trust that all is well.
Find the joy in this moment, the present conditions.
Begin The Longer Piece, even if just a working title and opening paragraph. Do not mess about. This is important.

To do today: light a candle for Marylinn's delightful, gentle, forgiving, loyal, questing son - and another for his extra-lovely Mother.
A day late but long may the birthday energies linger. . .

Claire - Thank you. The festive mood continues, much to celebrate. xo
Oh, I love that print! Happy birthday to your son -- it's my mother's birthday as well!
What a gift indeed! And he has the gift of a thoughtful, sensitive and musically knowledgeble mom!
p.s thanks for the link to Toms blog about these photograhers of past times. I find them sad but so powerful as reminders of desperate times and fragile lives. Cheers. K
Elizabeth - Happy Birthday to your mother, too, and a slice - or so - of Wayne Thiebaud's excellent cake. I love his dessert paintings. I'll share your wishes with my son, thank you. xo
Kerry - Thank you. Re: the Dust Bowl. My father grew up in California's Central Valley, where much of the story in THE GRAPES OF WRATH is set, the Hoovervilles - traces of which remained in the fifties or at least the sites could be identified. And my first fiction writing teacher liked using Dorothea Lange's photos as writing prompts. They surely tell a story. The Great Depression still resonates strongly here in California. Loved, as always, your photos of closing the summer camp. xo
Noble weekend plans.

Rachel - Some easy, some less so, all essential. Hope you are well. xoxo
