Word of the Week - 96

Word of the Week:  SOFTER

This will, no doubt, be the year of many things, not the least of which for me is The Year of Growing Softer.  We are not meant to be our carapaces, spiny ridges, jagged corners.  We are not intended to live defended lives, though it may feel otherwise.  Without growing softer, how do we begin to flow into each other, how do we empathize?

Growing softer is, like much of life, a process.  It is not achieved in one herculean leap.  If it is realized at all, it will be through tiny, elfin steps, wearing Barbie's pumps on our fingertips and walking with all the style we can muster through minefields, real and imagined.  "They" are an illusion.  There is really only "Us."

I heard poetry and couldn't resist.

The Year of Growing Softer (with apologies for edits)

We are not our carapaces,
We need not defend our lives
with spiny ridges, jagged corners.

We can grow soft,
flow into each other,
with tiny, elfin steps,
wearing Barbie's pumps
on fingertips,
walking through minefields
with style,
finally
becoming "us."

Marylinn, remove our comments so you can post the sweet picture on your Facebook page.

Kass - It's okay. I can add the photo. I just don't understand (along with SO many other things) why FB no longer allows the removal of unwanted text when putting up a blog link. It was working just fine, why fiddle with it. xo

I know what you mean. I have a laptop, smart phone and tablet. When I look at Facebook on each of them, Facebook shows entirely different posts. I know there's a way to affect what Facebook decides to show me, including clicking 'like' on your own posts, but I can't give it any more energy.

Kass - Thank goodness my confusion only extends to my laptop, no other devices. It's their game, isn't it? We can only try to keep up. xo

Lovely, Marylinn. What Kass says. And thank you, Kass. You've been supporting Marylinn for the last six years when others of us have floated away--well done! xo
